The Line: Central Florida Knights -7.5 -- Over/Under: 136
The East Carolina Pirates and the UCF Knights meet in AAC college basketball action from the Addition Financial Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The East Carolina Pirates come into this game looking to finish the season on a high note, sitting at 5-12 in conference play just above the basement after an 84-63 loss to UConn last time out. Jayden Gardner leads ECU in scoring and rebounding with 19.8 PPG and 9.3 RPG while Tristen Newton leads the Pirates with 3.7 APG as well as his 10.7 PPG this season. As a team, East Carolina is averaging 68.3 points on 42% shooting from the field, 28.3% from 3-point range and 72.3% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 71.5 points on 42.4% shooting from the field and 33% from 3-point range this season. East Carolina is 1-10 straight up and 5-6 against the spread on the road this season.
The UCF Knights will also look to pick up some positive vibes heading into the conference tournament, sitting at 6-11 in conference play after a 61-58 win over SMU last time out. Collin Smith leads UCF in scoring with 12.6 PPG as well as logging 6.2 RPG as UCF’s lone double-digit scorer while Darin Green Jr. has 9.7 PPG and Ceasar DeJesus has 9.6 PPG. Dazon Ingran has 8.2 PPG as well as team-high averages of 6.8 RPG and 3.6 APG this season. As a team, UCF is averaging 68 points on 42.7% shooting from the field, 31.4% from behind the arc and 70.9% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 68.1 points on 41.9% shooting from the field and 32% from 3-point range this season. UCF is 9-6 straight up and 4-11 against the spread at home this season.
Head-to-head, the road team is 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings between these two teams.
I get UCF being favored at home on senior day, but the Knights looked really bad down the stretch against SMU after almost collapsing after holding a 22-point first half lead. The Knights just aren’t a great basketball team, and while they’re probably better than East Carolina, I just think that UCF doesn’t deserve this much credit. I’ll take my shot with East Carolina and the points in this one.
