The Line: William & Mary Tribe -5.5 -- Over/Under: 142
The Elon Phoenix and the William & Mary Tribe meet in CAA college basketball action from the Entertainment and Sports Arena on Sunday evening.
The Elon Phoenix will look to keep the ball rolling after picking up a 63-61 first round win over James Madison last time out. Marcus Sheffield II leads Elon in scoring with 18.6 PPG while Hunter McIntosh has 11.5 PPG and 3.1 APG this season. Hunter Woods also has 9.8 PPG and a team-high 6.1 RPG this season. As a team, Elon is averaging 69.2 points on 41.7% shooting from the field, 36.6% from 3-point range and 74.1% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 72.5 points on 44.2% shooting from the field and 36% from 3-point range this season.
The William & Mary Tribe come into the conference tournament as the #2-seed, sitting at 13-5 in conference play as part of their 21-10 overall mark this season. Nathan Knight leads the Tribe in scoring and rebounding by averaging a double-double per game with 20.6 PPG and 10.5 RPG while Andy Van Vliet has 13.3 PPG and Luke Loewe has 10.9 PPG this season. Bryce Barnes also has 8.2 PPG and a team-high 3.5 APG this season. As a team, William & Mary is averaging 71.8 points on 46.6% shooting from the field, 34.6% from 3-point range and 74.4% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 69 points on 42.7% shooting from the field and 34.4% from 3-point range this season.
You could make a case for Elon and the points as the Phoenix have been better at covering the number lately than the Tribe have, but the problem is that William & Mary has been one of the better teams in the conference this season and playing away from home has been an issue for Elon. I just think that William & Mary is the better team here, so I'll lay the points with the Tribe in this one.
