The Line: East Tennessee State Buccaneers -6.5 -- Over/Under: 133
The Wofford Terriers and the East Tennessee State Buccaneers meet in college basketball action from US Cellular Center on Monday.
Coming into this Southern Conference Tournament matchup, Wofford is 19-15 overall. After dropping seven straight games heading into the tourney, Wofford has taken out the Citadel, Furman and Chattanooga in their last trio.
In the win over Chattanooga, Wofford’s Storm Murphy led the way on 15 points, two rebounds, two steals and one assist. Tray Hollowell managed 12 points there with two rebounds and one assist for Wofford as well.
Over on the East Tennessee State side, they’re 29-4 overall this season. It’s been an 11-game winning streak for East Tennessee State, and they’ve rolled past VMI and Western Carolina so far in this tournament.
In the win over Western Carolina on Sunday, East Tennessee State’s Daivien Williamson put up 20 points with two rebounds and two assists, and Tray Boyd had 18 points, six rebounds and four assists. Both Isaiah Tisdale and Bo Hodges chipped in 13 points apiece there as well.
East Tennessee State is 5-1 ATS in their last six games versus a team with a winning straight-up record and the under is 7-3 in their last 10 neutral-site games. The under is 5-2 in East Tennessee State’s last six neutral-site games as a favorite, and they’re 10-4-1 ATS in their last 15 neutral-site games as a favorite.
Meanwhile, Wofford is 6-2 ATS in their last eight games as an underdog and 3-5-2 ATS in their last 10 games after a straight-up win. The under is 5-3 in Wofford’s last eight games after an ATS win and they’re 9-1 ATS in their last 10 neutral-site games.
Well, East Tennessee State put on a clinic against a surging Western Carolina team in the tournament game Sunday, and the Buccaneers strutted away with an impressive 97-75 victory. I’d initially figured things would be a lot closer there, but ETSU has been playing great ball in the first two games of this Southern Conference Tournament and they’re just rolling right along.
As for Wofford, things got a little hairy in the second half versus Chattanooga, but they were able to power out a tenacious victory there. This matchup should feature plenty of fireworks as well, but I like East Tennessee State to bang out a cover.
