The Manhattan Jaspers and the Fairfield Stags meet in college basketball action from Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall on Tuesday.
Coming into this MAAC Tournament matchup, Manhattan is 12-17 overall. Since their last win over Marist, Manhattan is on a three-game losing streak versus Monmouth, Rider and Fairfield.
In the Friday loss to Fairfield, Manhattan’s top scorer was Samir Stewart with 12 points, three assists and one rebound. Both Pauly Paulicap and Tyler Reynolds notched 11 points apiece there, and combined for 10 rebounds with one assist as well.
Over on the Fairfield side, they’re 12-19 this year. After a four-game losing streak versus Siena, Quinnipiac, Rider and Monmouth, Fairfield finally got another win in their last appearance versus Manhattan.
In the win over Manhattan Friday, Fairfield’s Jesus Cruz led the team on 21 points with three assists. The only other Fairfield player in double-figures there was Landon Taliaferro with 19 points, three rebounds and one assist in the victory.
Fairfield is 4-0 ATS in their last four Tuesday games and 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 after a straight-up win. Fairfield is 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall and 3-1-1 ATS in the last five neutral-site games.
Meanwhile, Manhattan is 1-5 ATS in their last six Tuesday games and 1-5 ATS in their last six after an ATS loss. Manhattan is 1-7 ATS in their last eight overall and 4-0 ATS in the last four neutral-site games.
This is one of those interesting situations where two tournament teams just met each other recently, and going by that Fairfield should feel pretty good. The Stags held Manhattan to just 50 points in that one, despite scoring relatively a paltry 66 themselves.
That said, Fairfield had been under 60 points for a span of four games prior to that, so they’re going to want to keep this a low-scoring game. All things considered this should be a pretty fun matchup but I like Manhattan to get some revenge and cover here. Given the thin line however, this is probably one I'm going to stay away from due to the variables involved.
