The Line: Vermont Catamounts -16.5 -- Over/Under: 130
The UMBC Retrievers and the Vermont Catamounts meet in college basketball action from Patrick Gym on Tuesday.
Coming into this America East Tournament matchup, UMBC sits at 16-16 overall. After dropping consecutive games to Binghamton and Maine, UMBC has won their last pair versus Stony Brook and New Hampshire.
In the win over New Hampshire, UMBC’s leading scorer was KJ Jackson with 20 points, four rebounds and two assists. RJ Eytle-Rock added 15 points with five rebounds and one assist there, and Brandon Horvath had 13 points and three rebounds.
Over on the Vermont side, they’re 25-7 this year. Since their last loss to UMBC, Vermont has won three straight outings over UMass Lowell, Albany and Maine—that last one being a conference tournament game.
In the win over Maine, Vermont’s Anthony Lamb and Everett Duncan each posted 19 points with a combined seven assists and 13 rebounds. Stef Smith was also in double-figures for Vermont there with 10 points, three rebounds and one assist.
Vermont is 6-1 ATS in their last seven Tuesday games and 6-1 ATS in the last seven after an ATS loss. Vermont is 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 overall and the over is 4-1 in the last five Tuesday games.
Meanwhile, UMBC is 7-2 ATS in their last nine overall and 5-1 ATS in the last six after an ATS win. UMBC is also 5-1 ATS in the last six after an ATS win and the over is 4-1 in their last five overall.
Things were pretty close most of the way in UMBC’s win over New Hampshire, but in the end the Retrievers were able to pull off a solid 73-67 victory to move on. That makes 148 combined points in the last two games for UMBC, a nice total after they posted a dud with 48 points in the Maine game.
As for Vermont, they handled a plucky Maine team pretty well in their last outing, but the last time these teams met up UMBC powered out a 66-64 victory. I like Vermont to get some revenge here, so I’m leaning Catamounts on the cover.
