The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders and the Northwestern State Demons meet in college basketball action from Merrell Center on Wednesday.
Coming into this Southland Tournament matchup, Texas A&M-CC is 14-17 on the season. It’s been a four-game win streak for Texas A&M-CC, with wins over New Orleans, Incarnate Word, Sam Houston and Houston Baptist.
In the win over Houston Baptist, Texas A&M-CC’s leading scorer was Jordan Hairston with 20 points, four rebounds and one assist. Myles Smith added 18 points with five assists and three rebounds in that one, and both Elijah Schmidt and Tony Lewis chipped in 12 points apiece.
Over on the Northwestern State side, they’re 14-15 this year. After a recent three-game losing streak, Northwestern State has managed wins in their last two outings over New Orleans and Central Arkansas.
In the win over Central Arkansas, Northwestern State’s Jairus Roberson led the way on 23 points, two assists and two rebounds. Trenton Massner logged 20 points with five rebounds there, and Chudier Bile doubled up on 17 points, 15 rebounds and three assists.
Northwestern State is 4-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win and 4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS win. Northwestern State is 4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS win and 14-6 ATS in their last 20 overall.
Meanwhile, Texas A&M-CC is 4-0 ATS in their last four Wednesday games and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games versus a team with a losing straight-up record. Texas A&M-CC is 3-11 ATS in their last 11 neutral-site games and the over is 6-1 in their last seven overall.
During this four-game win streak, Texas A&M-CC has been scoring quite well, with 71 or more points posted in each of those outings, and they hung 84 on HBU their last time out. A couple of those wins were relatively close, but on the whole the Islanders have been playing solid ball.
As for Northwestern State they’ve been scoring well themselves over the last three games, with 92 or more points in each of those. This should be a pretty good matchup, and I like the scoring here to be little higher than the last time these teams met up. I’m leaning toward Northwestern State on the win/cover, though.
