The Line: Notre Dame Fighting Irish -9.5 -- Over/Under: 142.5
The Boston College Eagles and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish meet in ACC tournament second round action from the Greensboro Coliseum on Wednesday night.
The Boston College Eagles come into the conference tournament as the #10-seed, finishing the year with a 7-13 conference record as part of their 13-18 overall mark this season. Derryck Thornton leads BC in scoring and assists with 13.1 PPG and 3.5 APG while Jay Heath is 2nd in scoring with 13 PPG and Nik Popovic has 10.5 PPG in 20 games this season. Steffon Mitchell leads Boston College in rebounding with 8.5 RPG this season. As a team, Boston College is averaging 64.8 points on 40.4% shooting from the field, 30.8% from 3-point range and 65.5% from the foul line while allowing their opponents to average 70.3 points on 44.3% shooting from the field and 33.1% from 3-point range this season.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish enter the conference tournament as the #7-seed, sitting at 10-10 in conference play as part of a 19-12 overall record this season. John Mooney leads Notre Dame in scoring and rebounding with 16.5 PPG and 12.8 RPG while TJ Gibbs has 13.2 PPG and Prentiss Hubb has 12 PPG and a team-high 4.9 APG this season. Dane Goodwin also has 10.7 PPG for Notre Dame as well. As a team, Notre Dame is averaging 74.1 points on 42.6% shooting from the field, 34.3% from 3-point range and 73.3% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 69 points on 41.6% shooting from the field and 33.8% from 3-point range this season.
Head-to-head, the underdog is 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I get Notre Dame being favored here, as the Fighting Irish turned on their play down the stretch while Boston College struggled. However, Notre Dame just seems like a team that the Eagles get up for, as both games this season were decided by a single point. A wider victory wouldn’t surprise me here, but given what we’ve seen between the two teams this season, this has the makings of another close game. I’ll take a shot with Boston College and the points in this one.
