The Manhattan Jaspers and the Siena Saints meet in quarter-final tournament MAAC-tion in a college basketball matchup from the Boardwalk Hall on Wednesday night.
The Manhattan Jaspers come into the quarter-finals after knocking off 8th-seeded Fairfield by a final score of 61-43. Tykei Greene leads Manhattan in scoring with 10.2 PPG while Pauly Paulicap is 2nd in scoring and tops in rebounds with 10 PPG and 6.2 RPG this season. Warren Williams and Samir Stewart each have 8.6 PPG this season with Stewart adding a team-high 2.9 APG this season. As a team, Manhattan is averaging 62.6 points on 39.8% shooting from the field, 30.7% from 3-point range and 62.1% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 65 points on 42.1% shooting from the field and 35.1% from 3-point range this season.
The Siena Saints come into the conference tournament as the top seed, winning the MAAC regular season title after finishing the year with a 15-5 record in conference play as part of their 19-10 overall mark this year. Jalen Pickett leads the Saints in scoring and assists with 15.3 PPG and 6 APG while Elijah Burns is 2nd in scoring with 14.6 PPG and Manny Camper is 3rd in scoring and tops in rebounding with 13.6 PPG and 10.4 RPG this season. Donald Carey also has 11.4 PPG for the Saints this season. As a team, Siena is averaging 72.6 points on 45.9% shooting from the field, 35.6% from 3-point range and 70.8% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 68.3 points on 43.1% shooting from the field and 32.1% from 3-point range this season.
We've seen it on multiple occasions this conference tournament season already where the lower seed that's had a game to shake the rust off takes it to the rested higher seed, and after how Manhattan played yesterday, it wouldn't surprise me to see a battle here. However, Siena finished the year better down the stretch, holding opponents to just 62.6 PPG across their last 5 games while Manhattan's put up just 59 PPG in their last 5 games. I just don't see this being the game where Siena hangs around, especially with so much on the line, so I'll lay the points with the Saints here.
