The Cal State Fullerton Titans and the Cal State Northridge Matadors meet in college basketball action from Honda Center on Thursday.
Coming into this Big West Tournament matchup, Cal State Fullerton sits at 11-20 on the year. After losing four straight games recently, CSUF got a win over Long Beach State in their final pre-tournament game.
In the win over Long Beach State, CSUF’s leading scorer was Brandon Kamga with 19 points, seven rebounds and one assist, and Austen Awosika doubled up there on 13 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds. Jackson Rowe chipped in 15 points and four boards there as well.
Over on the Cal State Northridge side, they’re 15-17 this year. Currently, CSUN is on a four-game winning streak, taking out Long Beach State, CSUF, UC Irvine and Hawaii in that quartet.
In the win over Hawaii, Cal State Northridge’s Lamine Diane led the way on a double-double with 34 points, 15 rebounds and one assist. Terrell Gomez added 24 points, two rebounds and one assist there, and Elijah Harkless had 12 points with seven rebounds and two assists.
Cal State Northridge is 4-1 ATS in their last five Thursday games and 17-8 ATS in their last 25 after a straight-up win. Cal State Northridge is 4-0 ATS in their last four overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five games after a straight-up win.
Meanwhile, Cal State Fullerton is 1-5 ATS in their last six Thursday games and 2-7 ATS in their last nine after a straight-up win. CSUF is 2-6 ATS in their last seven overall and 1-4 ATS in their last five versus a team with a losing straight-up record.
Cal State Fullerton fell into some bad scoring slumps during their four-game losing streak, putting up 66 points or fewer in three of those (and 92 in a seven-point loss to CSUN in the other). Cal State Fullerton bounced back with a solid 75-point total versus LBSU, however.
In any case, Cal State Northridge has been at 72 or above points in each of their last four, and this matchup should be another high-scoring affair. I’m going with CSUN to power out a cover here.
