The Line: Charlotte 49ers -1 -- Over/Under: 136
The FIU Panthers and the Charlotte 49ers meet in college basketball action from Ford Center at the Star on Thursday.
Coming into this Conference USA Tournament matchup, Florida International sits at 19-13 so far. FIU had lost consecutive games to LA Tech and Western Kentucky heading into the tournament, but got an opener win over Rice Wednesday.
In the tourney win over Rice, Florida International’s top scorer was Trejon Jacob with 21 points, five rebounds and two assists. Antonio Daye added 20 points, eight assists and two rebounds there, and Osasumwen Osaghae came away on 17 points and eight rebounds.
Over on the Charlotte side, they’re 16-13 this year. Over the last four games, Charlotte is 2-2, with wins over Western Kentucky and North Texas alongside losses to FIU and Louisiana Tech in that time.
In the loss to Louisiana Tech, Charlotte’s top scorer was Jordan Shepherd with 11 points, three rebounds and three assists. Jahmir Young was the only other Charlotte player in double-figures there with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists, but Milos Supica chipped in nine points.
Charlotte is 0-3-1 ATS in their last four Thursday games and 19-6-2 ATS in their last 27 after an ATS loss. Charlotte is 2-5 ATS in the last seven neutral-site games and the over is 5-10 in their last five Thursday games.
Meanwhile, FIU is 4-0 ATS in their last four after a straight-up win and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 overall. The over is 8-3 in FIU’s last 11 neutral-site games and the under is 7-2 in their last nine Thursday games.
Charlotte has had some issues with their scoring lately. In four of the last five games, the 49ers have totaled 56 points or fewer, with three of those games being losses. In total over their last three games, Charlotte has posted a paltry 151 points.
As for FIU, they didn’t have a ton of trouble overall with Rice, and they’ve scored 85 points in each of their last two games. Considering the current matchup, both Charlotte and Florida International have a victory in the season series, and neither game was all that close. I’m not too keen on trusting Charlotte these days, so I’m going to stick on FIU for the cover here.
