The Line: Grand Canyon Antelopes +1.5 -- Over/Under: 135
The Grand Canyon Antelopes and the Kansas City Roos meet in a WAC tournament quarterfinal matchup in college basketball action from the Orleans Arena on Thursday.
The Grand Canyon Antelopes come into the tournament as the #4 seed, finishing the year with an 8-8 conference record as part of their 13-17 overall mark this season. Alessandro Lever leads the Antelopes in scoring and rebounding with 15.7 PPG and 6 RPG while Carlos Johnson is 2nd in scoring with 15.4 PPG and Mikey Dixon has 11.8 PPG in 18 games. Jovan Blackshear Jr. has 10.7 PPG, 5.5 RPG and a team-high 3.6 APG this season. As a team, Grand Canyon is averaging 70.5 points on 45.1% shooting from the field, 33.3% from 3-point range and 74.6% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 73 points on 44.1% shooting from the field and 35.6% from 3-point range this season.
The Kansas City Roos come in as the 5th seed after finishing the year with an 8-7 record in conference play as part of their 16-14 overall mark this season. Brandon McKissic leads the Roos in scoring and assists with 11 PPG and 3 APG while Jordan Giles has 10.5 PPG and Javan White has 10 PPG and a team-high 6.9 RPG this season. As a team, Kansas City is averaging 69.8 points on 45.8% shooting from the field, 35.9% from 3-point range and 68.4% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 65.9 points on 42.8% shooting from the field and 29.7% from 3-point range this season.
Head-to-head, the underdog is 3-1-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I get why the free point with Grand Canyon would be tempting as the Antelopes won both head-to-head meetings in the regular season. However, Kansas City was rolling to finish the year, finishing the regular season with four straight wins and covering in five of their last six with a push, and I think that momentum carries over here as the Roos bag a win and cover to advance in the conference tournament.
