The Line: Norfolk State Spartans -6.5 -- Over/Under: 135.5
The Coppin State Eagles and the Norfolk State Spartans meet in college basketball action from Norfolk Scope on Thursday.
Coming into this MEAC Tournament matchup, Coppin State is 12-20 on the year. After consecutive losses last month, Coppin State has won three straight over Delaware State, Morgan State and MD Eastern Shore.
In the win over Maryland Eastern Shore, Coppin State’s lead scorer was Brendan Medley-Bacon, who doubled up on 20 points, 13 rebounds and two assists. Also in double-figures for Coppin State there was Kamar McKnight with 17 points, two rebounds and two assists.
Over on the Norfolk State side, they’re 17-15 this year. It’s been a three-game win streak for Norfolk State as well, recording wins over Howard, Delaware State and Morgan State in that time.
In the win over Morgan State, Norfolk State’s lead scorer was Jermaine Bishop with 21 points, three assists and one rebound. Joe Bryant added 12 points, four rebounds and four assists in that one, and Yoro Sidibe had 10 points with three rebounds in the victory.
Norfolk State is 5-2 ATS in the last seven Thursday games and 5-1 ATS in the last six home games. Norfolk State is 0-4 ATS in their last four after an ATS win and the over is 4-1 in thier last five games versus a team with a losing straight-up record.
Meanwhile, Coppin State is 2-5 ATS in their last seven games after a straight-up win and 2-5 ATS in the last seven games after an ATS win. Coppin State is 4-1 ATS in their last five games versus a team with a winning straight-up record and the under is 6-1 in their last seven road games.
Coppin State has been on a nice run over their last three, but realistically they’ve been flexing on some bad teams during that time. Furthermore, 63 points against a bad MD Eastern Shore team is a little sketchy but hey, it was a late-season road win.
In any case, Norfolk State has looked solid (and beating up on the same bad teams) over their last three games. When the Spartans get going they’re a formidable offense, but they’re also capable of duds here and there. Still, I like Norfolk State to be in total control here.
