The Line: Rider Broncs -8.5 -- Over/Under: 138
The Niagara Purple Eagles and the Rider Broncs meet in college basketball action from Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall on Thursday.
Coming into this MAAC Tournament matchup, Niagara is 12-20 overall. Niagara lost their final two pre-tourney games versus Siena and Canisius but took out Marist Tuesday in the opening round.
In the win over Marist Tuesday, Niagara’s leading scorer was Marcus Hammond with 20 points, three assists and four rebounds. The only other Purple Eagles player in double-figures in that game was Raheem Solomon, who finished on 14 points and three rebounds for the evening.
Over on the Rider side, they’re 18-12 this year. Rider is on a three-game winning streak right now, and in that time they’ve beaten Monmouth, Fairfield and Manhattan in succession.
In the win over Manhattan, Rider’s leading scorer was Tyere Marshall with 20 points, eight rebounds and two assists. Dimencio Vaughn added 18 points, eight rebounds and one assist there, and Frederick Scott had 13 points with two rebounds for Rider in the victory.
Rider is 1-4 ATS in their last five Thursday games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games following a straight-up win. Niagara is 7-15-2 ATS in their last 24 after an ATS win and 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games overall.
Meanwhile, Niagara is 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall and the over is 13-5-1 in their last 19 games following a straight-up win. The under is 4-1 in Niagara’s last five overall and 4-1 in their last five games as an underdog.
Niagara had a little trouble shaking off Marist in their Tuesday MAAC Tournament game (56-54), but it was a nice revenge win after getting beaten by the Red Foxes 76-54 back on February 23. That said, it’s worth keeping in mind that Niagara hasn’t eclipsed 63 points in any of their last three games.
As for Rider, they’re on a nice roll over their last three games and have hit 71-plus in two of those. I’m not super crazy about the unpredictable Broncs right now but I think they can bang out a cover here. I’m going Rider.
