The VCU Rams enter as the #9-seed, finishing the year with an equal 8-10 mark in conference play as part of their 18-13 overall mark this season, losing out on a head-to-head tiebreaker with UMass for the higher seed. Marcus Santos-Silva leads the Rams with an average of 12.8 PPG and 8.9 RPG while De’Riante Jenkins has 10.7 PPG and Marcus Evans has 9.8 PPF with a team-high 2.8 APG this season. As a team, VCU is averaging 70.7 points on 43.2% shooting from the field, 34.6% from 3-point range and 69.6% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 65.2 points on 42.3% shooting from the field and 33.7% from 3-point range this season.

Head-to-head the favorite is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.

I get why VCU would be favored and laying the points against UMass could make sense. However, VCU hasn’t been very good against the number lately, and while we’ve made a nice chunk of change fading UMass, the fact remains that the Minutemen played much better ATS down the stretch and beat VCU outright just a couple of weeks ago. I’ll take my chances with UMass and the points in this one.
