It’s been a pretty solid start for Norfolk State, outside of one flat game last week. The Spartans came out of the gate with an 83-73 win over James Madison, then eked by Radford 57-54. In the Old Dominion game, Norfolk State fell 80-66, but got back in the win column on Monday 76-64 over Hampton.
In the win over the Pirates, Norfolk State’s Devante Carter posted 29 points with eight assists and nine rebounds to lead the team. The only other Spartans player in double-figures was Daryl Anderson with 12 points and seven rebounds, but JJ Matthews almost got there on nine points and four boards in 17 minutes.
Over on the UNC Greensboro side, they managed a victory in the opener, but since then it’s been three straight defeats. The Spartans took out Little Rock 77-70 in game one, but then fell to Winthrop 75-67 and Duquesne 81-68. UNCG was a little closer to Coppin State on Thursday 85-80 but still lost.
In the Thursday game, UNC Greensboro was led by Isaiah Miller on 24 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Khyre Thompson was also in double-figures there, with 18 points and eight boards. Kaleb Hunter chipped in eight points with five rebounds as well.
UNC Greensboro is 1-8 ATS in their last nine overall and 0-4 ATS in their last four home games. The over is 8-1 in UNCG’s last nine overall and 5-2 in the last seven home games.
Meanwhile, Norfolk State is 1-5 ATS in their last six Sunday games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five overall. Norfolk State is 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine road games and the under is 7-1 in the last eight Sunday games.
PICK: I’m going to go with Norfolk State here. Though they’re a bit top-heavy in scoring with a couple of guys carrying major loads this season, Norfolk State has been getting some solid contributions from their role-players and it’s paying off in the win column. It’s been a little spotty on defense here and there, but Norfolk State has the scoring ability to compensate. This matchup should be a good one, and I like UNCG to play well. I think Norfolk State has the gas to bang out a cover though.
