Florida A&M enters this one at 0-4 so far. The Rattlers have lost to FGCU, Georgia, Oregon and Oklahoma in their first quartet of outings. As for Austin Peay, they’re 4-2 this year. The Governors lost to Murray State last week but took out McKendree on Monday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Florida A&M has had a rough go of things in their first four games, with some tough matchups mixed in there. The Rattlers lost their opener to FGCU 65-56, then fell 85-75 to Georgia in game two. Things got progressively worse with losses 87-66 to Oregon and 85-54 to Oklahoma.
In the loss to the Sooners, Florida A&M’s Johnny Brown led the team on 16 points, nine rebounds and one assist. MJ Randolph was also in double-figures there with 15 points, three assists and two boards, while Bryce Moragne chipped in 11 rebounds and seven points.
Over on the Austin Peay side, they opened up the year with wins over Omaha 72-66 and East Tennessee State 67-66. After that it was a loss 80-72 o ACU, a win over Carver 102-38 and a loss to Murray State 87-57. In Monday’s game against McKendree, Austin Peay got back on track with a big 82-68 win.
In the Monday victory, Austin Peay’s leading scorer was Terry Taylor with 31 points, eight rebounds and a steal on 12-of-19 shooting. Tai’Reon Joseph also had a solid line for the Governors, posting 20 points with one rebound, one assist, two steals and 4-of-5 from 3-point range.
Austin Peay is 6-1 ATS in their last seven Tuesday games and 18-6-2 ATS in their last 26 versus a team with a losing straight-up record. The under is 7-1 in the Governors’ last eight Tuesday games and they’re 20-6-1 ATS in their last 27 at home versus a team with a losing road record.
Meanwhile, Florida A&M is 3-9 ATS in their last 12 road games and 6-1 ATS in their last seven Tuesday games. The over is 8-3 in the Rattlers’ last 11 road games and 5-2 in their last seven overall.
PICK: I’ve got to stick with Austin Peay here. Granted, the Rattlers have faced some difficult challenges over their first four games, but outside of a good first half (38-37) against Georgia there aren’t many positives to point to so far. Florida A&M has posted some ugly shooting numbers this season and hasn’t showcased much consistency at all. Austin Peay has had their issues scoring at times themselves this season, but the Governors still have more than enough offense to bang out a cover in this one.
