The South Carolina State Bulldogs and the Liberty Flames meet in college basketball action from Liberty Arena on Tuesday night.

The South Carolina State Bulldogs will still be looking for their first win of the season after a 60-58 loss to Jacksonville last time out. Rahsean Edwards led the Bulldogs with 27 points on 10 of 20 shooting with 5 threes, 5 rebounds and 3 assists as the lone double-digit scorer for South Carolina State in the losing effort. Floyd Rideau Jr. added 9 points with a pair of threes and 5 rebounds and Latavian Lawrence added 6 points with a team-high 7 rebounds as well in the defeat for the Bulldogs. Rideau Jr. leads the Bulldogs in scoring with 9.3 points per game while Lawrence leads the Buldogs on the glass with 4.6 rebounds per game and Edwards is South Carolina’s top assist man, dishing out 2.4 assists per game this season. As a team, South Carolina State is averaging 56.3 points on 34.8% shooting from the field, 27.8% from 3-point range and 70.1% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 80.3 points on 48.4% shooting from the field and 32.7% from 3-point range this season.

The Liberty Flames will look to add to their current 5-3 start to the year after a 73-26 win over Columbia international last time out. Blake Preston led the Flames with 11 points on a perfect 5 of 5 shooting from the field with 6 rebounds while Isiah Warfield and Darius McGhee each had 10 points to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Liberty in the win. McGhee chipped in 6 rebounds while shooting 4 of 5 with a pair of threes while Warfield shot 4 of 4 with a pair of triples as well. Drake Dobbs added a team-high 5 assists while Micaiah Abii added 6 rebounds as well in the win. McGhee leads Liberty in scoring and rebounding with an average of 15.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game while Chris Parker leads the Flames in assists with 5.3 assists per game this season. South Carolina State is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a loss. Liberty is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games against a team with a losing road record while the over is 7-2 in their last 9 games following a win.

I’ll give the Flames credit for hanging around with and even beating some of the bigger boys on their schedule, with wins over South Carolina and Mississippi State as well as close games against Missouri, Purdue and TCU. However, we haven’t really seen the Flames blow anyone away either, only beating St. Francis by 16 earlier this season and a 22-point win against a subdivision opponent. South Carolina State is bad, but this is just a case of too many points. I think it’s a 20-21 point win, giving us a couple points worth of wiggle room. I’ll take a shot with the points and South Carolina State in this one.
