The Eastern Washington Eagles and the Saint Mary’s Gaels meet Tuesday in college basketball action from McKeon Pavilion.
Eastern Washington comes in at 1-3 so far. After losing their first three games to start the year, the Eagles beat College of Idaho in their last outing. As for Saint Mary’s, they’re sitting at 6-1 so far. The Gaels have won six straight games, most recently against San Jose State on Friday. Eastern Washington opened up the year with three straight losses, but were competitive in a couple of them. The Eagles fell 71-68 to Washington State, 70-67 to Arizona and 69-52 to Oregon in their first trio. On Friday Eastern Washington got a win 80-56 over College of Idaho.
In their win over the Coyotes, Eastern Washington’s lead scorers were Jacob Davidson and Jacob Groves, each with 15 points and a combined three assists with seven rebounds. Tanner Groves doubled up with 10 points, 12 rebounds and one assist in that one as well.
Over on the Saint Mary’s side, they lost their opener 73-56 to Memphis but have won six straight since then. Those victories came 66-64 over Northern Iowa, 72-59 over Nicholls State, 82-70 over Texas Southern, 73-61 over UTEP and 96-61 over San Jose State.
In the Friday win over the Spartans, Saint Mary’s leading contributor was Dan Fotu, doubling up on 15 points, 10 rebounds and one assist. Logan Johnson scored 15 with five boards, and Matthias Tass posted 13 points and four assists.
Saint Mary’s is 3-1-1 ATS in their last five at home versus a team with a losing road record and the over is 7-3 in their last 10 after an ATS win. The over is 5-1 in the Gaels’ last six as a home favorite and 6-1 in the last seven as a favorite.
Meanwhile, Eastern Washington is 6-2 ATS in their last eight overall and 5-1 ATS in their last six road games. The under is 4-0 in the Eagles’ last four overall and 5-0 in their last five road games.
PICK: I’m sticking with Saint Mary’s here. The Gaels have been pretty impressive over this six-game winning streak, and they’ve posted 72 or more points in each of their last five outings. All five of those wins came by 12 or more points as well. Eastern Washington isn’t going to have such an easy time scoring here; they’ve been at 68 or fewer points in three of four so far. I think this one will be all Saint Mary’s as they cruise to a cover.
