The FAU Owls and the Stetson Hatters meet in college basketball action from the Edmunds Center on Tuesday night.
The FAU Owls will look to build on their 4-2 start to the year after picking up a 112-49 win over Florida Memorial in their last game to pick up a 4th straight win. Michael Forrest led the way with 15 points on 5 of 6 shooting with 3 threes while B.J. Greenlee added 14 points on 5 of 10 shooting with 3 threes and 3 assists. Giancarlo Rosaro added 13 points on 5 of 8 shooting with 6 rebounds and a pair of steals while Jailyn Ingram and Kenan Blackshear added 12 points apiece with Ingram shooting 4 of 9 from the field with a team-high 5 assists and 3 steals while Blackshear shot 5 of 7 with a team-high 8 rebounds. Alijah Martin added 11 points on 4 of 4 from the floor with 3 triples to cap off the scoring in double figures for FAU in the win while Johneil Davis added 8 points with 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Ingram leads the Owls in scoring and rebounding with an average of 14.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while Greenlee leads the Owls in assists with 2.8 assists per game this season. As a team, FAU is averaging 86.3 points on 47.5% shooting from the field, 42.4% from behind the arc and 66.7% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 59.8 points on 39.2% shooting from the field and 33.8% from 3-point range this season.
The Stetson Hatters will still be looking for their first win of the season after falling to 0-4 with a 73-62 loss to USF last time out. Rob Perry led the Hatters with 15 points including 3 triples while Chase Johnston added 13 points with 3 triples of his own as well as a team-high 7 rebounds and a pair of steals. Mahamadou Diawara added 10 points to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Stetson in the loss while Giancarlo Valdez added a team-high 5 assists. Perry leads Stetson in scoring with an average of 13.8 points per game while Diawara leads the Hatters on the glass with 7 rebounds per game and Stephen D. Swenson leads Stetson in assists with 3.3 assists per game this season. As a team, Stetson is averaging 55.8 points on 34.1% shooting from the field, 28.8% from 3-point range and 63.2% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 76.3 points on 43% shooting from the field and 37.6% from 3-point range this season.
FAU is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 road games against a team with a losing home record while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 Tuesday games.
I’m not trying to lay points with FAU on the road as much as the next person, but the problem with Stetson is that we’re just not getting enough points with the Hatters to make taking a shot on the home dog worth it. FAU isn’t necessarily on the level of the Florida’s or teams of that lineage that Stetson’s faced up to this point, but the Owls are the better team and should have no problem winning this one by a bucket on the road. I’ll lay the points with FAU in this one.
