The Kennesaw State Owls and the Belmont Bruins meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Curb Event Center.
Kennesaw State enters this one at 3-2 so far. After losing consecutive games to UAB and Creighton, the Owls managed a win over Dalton State in their last outing. As for Belmont, they’re 5-1 this year. Since losing to Samford, Belmont has taken out Tennessee State and Lipscomb in their last pair. Kennesaw State has three double-digit wins and two double-digit losses on their card so far. The Owls opened up with victories over Carver 87-40 and Toccoa Falls 106-44, then fell to UAB 73-48 and Creighton 93-58. On Saturday, Kennesaw State got a win over Dalton State 72-62.
In the Saturday victory, Kennesaw State’s top contributor was Chris Youngblood with 24 points, four assists and two rebounds. Spencer Rodgers was the only other Owls player in double-figures there with 21 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Over on the Belmont side, they opened up their season with three straight wins: 95-78 over Howard, 77-67 over George Mason and 73-61 over Queens NC. The Bruins lost to Samford in game four 96-83, but bounced back with wins over Tennessee State 79-64 and Lipscomb 81-71 in their most recent pair.
In the win over the Bisons, Belmont’s Luke Smith led the team on 19 points, four assists and three rebounds. Caleb Hollander provided 15 points, seven rebounds and two assists, while Nick Muszynski had a solid game on 14 points, eight rebounds and one assist.
The Bruins are 19-8-1 ATS in their last 28 home games and 8-1 ATS in their last nine after an ATS win. Belmont is 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five as a favorite.
Meanwhile, the Owls are 5-12 ATS in their last 17 road games and 19-39 ATS in the last 58 overall. Kennesaw State is 3-9 ATS in their last 12 after a straight-up win and the under is 4-1 in their last five Wednesday games.
PICK: I’m sticking with Belmont. Kennesaw State has had a few solid offensive outings, with 72 or more in each of their three wins. Thing is, against tougher competition in UAB and Creighton the Owls came up with a combined 106 points across two games. Belmont has been strong all year on the scoreboard, with 73 or more points in every game. I like the Bruins to jump out to an early lead here and never look back in a smooth cover.
