The Wagner Seahawks and the Bryant Bulldogs meet in college basketball action from the Chace Athletic Center on Wednesday afternoon.
The Wagner Seahawks will look to bounce back from a season-opening 78-45 loss to Seton Hall last time out. Elijah Allen and Elijah Ford each had 13 points as the lone pair of double-digit scorers for Wagner in the losing effort with Allen shooting just 5 of 16 from the floor with a pair of threes, 5 rebounds and a pair of steals while Ford went 5 of 13 from the floor with 3 rebounds. Alex Morales added 7 points with a team-high 8 rebounds as well in the defeat for the Seahawks. As a team, Wagner is averaging 45 points on 27.4% shooting from the field, 15% from behind the arc and 57.1% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 78 points on 48.8% shooting from the field and 31.3% from 3-point range this season.
The Bryant Bulldogs will look to build on an 81-72 win over Stony Brook in their last outing. Michael Green III led the Bulldogs with 24 points on 7 of 15 shooting with 6 rebounds while Charles Pride added 16 points on 6 of 14 shooting with team-highs of 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Chris Childs added 14 points on 4 of 8 shooting with 3 threes and Luis Hurtado added 12 points on 5 of 7 shooting to cap off the scoring in double figures for the Bulldogs in the victory. Green III leads Bryant in scoring and assists with an average of 17.3 points and 4.7 assists per game while Pride leads the Bulldogs in rebounding with 8.3 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Bryant is averaging 98 points per game on 48.4% shooting from the field, 42.5% from behind the arc and 77.3% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 83.3 points on 42.4% shooting from the floor and 29% from 3-point range this season.
Wagner is 8-25 ATS in their last 33 games overall and 7-19 ATS in their last 26 road games while the under is 12-4-1 in their last 17 games following a loss. Bryant is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 5-11 ATS in their last 16 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a win.
The numbers in terms of defense from Bryant aren’t fantastic and Wagner gave themselves an extremely tough task against Seton Hall to start the year. However, that doesn’t change the fact that Wagner’s been a brutal cover team for some time now and a team like Bryant that’s already had 6 games under their belt and looked good against teams in their conference and on their level is more than enough for me, so I’ll lay the points with Bryant in this spot.
