Ole Miss has gotten off to a nice start over their first three games, taking decisive victories against overmatched competition in each. The Rebels started out with an 80-45 win over Jackson State, then beat UNCW 78-58. On Monday Mississippi kept it going 68-54 over Central Arkansas.
In the win over the Bears, Ole Miss’ top scorer was Devontae Shuler with 20 points, four rebounds and four assists. Both Luis Rodriguez and Robert Allen added 12 points apiece, combining for five assists and 14 rebounds.
Over on the Middle Tennessee side, they’ve had a choppy year thus far. The Raiders opened with losses 60-59 to Omaha and 57-43 to East Tennessee State. Middle Tennessee was able to take out Murray State in their next game 78-61, then fell to Chattanooga 80-70.
In the Raiders’ last outing on Saturday, they took a 76-57 win over Covenant. Leading the way for Middle Tennessee in that one was Jordan Davis with 22 points and seven rebounds. Dontrel Shuler was the only other team player in double-figures with 16 points, five rebounds and two assists.
Middle Tennessee is 1-6 ATS in their last seven overall and 2-5 ATS in their last seven as an underdog. The Raiders are 1-6 ATS in the last seven home games and the under is 7-1 in their last eight overall.
Meanwhile, the Rebels are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 road games and 6-2 ATS in the last eight after a straight-up win. Mississippi is 10-2 ATS in their last 12 Wednesday games and the under is 4-0-1 in their last five overall.
PICK: I’m going with Mississippi. The Raiders came out of the gate with a couple of limp offensive performances, notching a combined 102 points across two games. Middle Tennessee has been better since, with 70 or more in three straight. Still, the Rebels haven’t had much trouble with any opponent yet this year, winning each game by 14 or more points. If Ole Miss plays to their capabilities they shouldn’t have much trouble covering here.
