The East Carolina Pirates and the SMU Mustangs meet Wednesday in college basketball action from SMU Moody Coliseum.

The Mustangs’ last two wins have come courtesy of Houston Baptist and Dayton. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
East Carolina is rolling right along this season, and each of their five wins has come by a sizable margin. The Pirates kicked things off with wins over Charlotte 66-57, NC Wesleyan 91-62, Radford 63-50 and UNCW 88-78. On Thursday in their last outing East Carolina kept it going 73-67 over North Florida.
In the win over the Ospreys, Jayden Gardner led the Pirates in scoring with 20 points, 12 rebounds and one assist for a double-double. JJ Miles added 16 points with two rebounds and one assist, while Brandon Suggs posted 10 points with five rebounds and five assists.
Over on the SMU side, it’s been smooth sailing as well—with one close escape in their last game. The Mustangs opens with wins 97-67 over Sam Houston, 91-54 over Texas A&M-CC and 102-75 over Houston Baptist. SMU had a scare against Dayton in their last outing though, eking it out 66-64.
In the win over the Flyers, SMU’s Kendric Davis topped the team with 21 points, six rebounds and three assists. Emmanuel Bandoumel added 19 points with three rebounds and one assist, while Ethan Chargois was also in double-digits on 14 points and four boards.
SMU is 1-5 ATS in their last six after an ATS win and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games. The Mustangs are 1-4 ATS in their last five Wednesday games and the over is 11-3 in their last 14 at home.
Meanwhile, East Carolina is 9-19 ATS in their last 28 road games and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 Wednesday games. The over is 8-1-1 in the Pirates’ last 10 road games and the under is 6-2 in their last eight after a straight-up win.
PICK: I’m sticking with ECU here. The Pirates have been quite impressive so far after five games, winning each outing by six points or more, and four of five by nine points or more. The East Carolina scoring has been a little spotty in a couple of games, but they’ve hit 73 or more in three of five. SMU has some solid scorers of their own and should be able to hang around in this game, but I like the Pirates to power out a cover late.
