Fairfield enters this game at 1-5 so far. After a five-game losing streak to begin the season, the Stags managed a win over Iona in their last outing. As for Niagara, they’re 0-3 this year. Fairfield had a couple of close results in their season-opening five-game losing streak, but couldn’t find a win. Those losses came 97-56 to Providence, 66-61 to Hartford, 72-69 to Stony Brook, 67-54 to Hartford and 70-42 to Iona. The Stags did get a win over Iona on Saturday in their last game 67-52.
In the win over the Gaels, Fairfield’s leading scorer was Caleb Green with 14 points, three rebounds and three assists. Chris Maidoh doubled up with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while the duo of Taj Benning and Jalen Leach each posted 10 points.
Over on the Niagara side, it’s been three underwhelming losses to start the season. The Eagles opened up with a 75-45 loss to Syracuse, then dropped 70-54 to Saint Peter’s in game two. On Saturday it was more of the same, with another loss to Saint Peter’s 53-49.
In the Saturday loss, Niagara’s leading scorer was Marcus Hammond with 15 points and five rebounds. The only other Eagles player in double-figures there was Kobi Nwandu with 11 points, four rebounds and three assists.
The Eagles are 6-0 ATS in their last six home games and 6-0 ATS in their last six at home versus a team with a losing road record. The under is 4-1 in Niagara’s last five Friday games and 18-7-1 in their last 26 overall.
Meanwhile, the Stags are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 road games and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 overall. The under is 41-11 in Fairfield’s last 52 overall and 7-1 in the last eight Friday games.
PICK: I’m going with Fairfield here. There’s not a whole lot of intrigue in this game however, considering neither team has played well and they’re a combined 1-8 in the record column so far. In any case, Niagara’s offense has been flat this season, notching 54 or fewer points in every game so far. Fairfield hasn’t been much better though, as they haven’t hit 70 points in any outing yet. The Stags have a better offense overall so far, but this is bound to be a sloppy game any way you look at it.
