The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles and the Tennessee Volunteers meet Friday in college basketball action from Thompson-Boling Arena.

Tennessee Tech skids into this matchup at 0-7 so far. The Eagles have fallen to Western Carolina and Jacksonville State (twice) in their last three games. As for Tennessee, they’re 3-0 this season. The Volunteers have taken out Colorado, Cincinnati and App State in their first trio. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Tennessee Tech has had a rough season to say the least, but they’ve been close in a few games. The Eagles opened with losses to Indiana, Chattanooga, Xavier and Northern Kentucky, then fell 76-75 to Western Carolina. In the two Jacksonville state games, Tennessee Tech lost 73-67 and 74-50.

In the Wednesday loss to the Gamecocks, Tennessee Tech’s Kenny White was the team’s top scorer with 12 points, two assists and two rebounds. Tujautae Williams was also in double-figures in that one with 10 points and three rebounds to his credit.

Over on the Tennessee side, it’s been smooth sailing so far with three wins under their belts. The Volunteers took out Colorado 56-47 in the opener, then beat Cincinnati 65-56. On Tuesday against Appalachian State, it was another Tennessee win 79-38 in blowout fashion.

In the victory over the Mountaineers, Tennessee’s Victor Bailey led the team on 13 points and three rebounds. John Fulkerson added 12 points with five rebounds and one assist, while Jaden Springer chipped in 12 points. Josiah-Jordan James added 11 points with eight boards in that one as well.

The Volunteers are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games and 5-1 ATS in their last six overall. Tennessee is 4-10-1 ATS in their last 15 Friday games and the under is 5-1 in their last six home games.

Meanwhile, the Eagles are 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall and 8-17-1 ATS in their last 26 Friday games. The under is 12-3 in Tennessee Tech’s last 15 Friday games and 6-1 in the last seven after an ATS loss.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Tennessee. That said, I’m probably staying away due to the thick line in this one. The Volunteers destroyed App State in their last game, pouring in 45 rebounds, 13 steals and 12 assists with 49.3 percent shooting from the field. It was Tennessee’s most dynamic offensive outing so far, and followed a relatively tepid 121 points combined over their first pair. The Volunteers will be turning the screws on defense once again in this matchup, and Tennessee Tech just doesn’t have the scoring to power through it.
