The Idaho Vandals and the Utah Utes meet Friday in college basketball action from Jon M. Huntsman Center.
Idaho enters this one at 0-4 so far. The Vandals have lost to Washington State and CSUB in their last two outings. As for Utah, they’re sitting at 3-1 this year. The Utes fell to BYU last weekend but beat Utah Valley on Tuesday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Idaho hasn’t had much luck on the court this year, but they have had one close game. The Vandals opened with two blowout losses to Sacramento State, 77-55 and 73-57. In the two games since Idaho has lost 61-58 to Washington State and 76-66 to CSUB.
In the loss to the Roadrunners, Idaho’s leading scorers were DeAndre Robinson and Ja’Vary Christmas, each with 13 points and a combined three rebounds with three assists. Gabe Quinnett added 11 points with two rebounds and two assists as well.
Over on the Utah side, it’s been a solid year so far outside of the one loss. The Utes bagged wins in their first two games, taking out Washington 76-62 and Idaho State 75-59. After a loss 82-64 to BYU, Utah managed another win 75-67 over Utah Valley on Tuesday.
In the win over the Wolverines, Utah’s Timmy Allen posted 19 points with six rebounds and two assists. Branden Carlson posted 14 points with two rebounds and two assists, while both Alfonso Plummer and Rylan Jones managed 12 points apiece.
Utah is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win. The Utes are 2-5 ATS in their last seven after an ATS loss and the over is 8-1 in their last nine overall.
Meanwhile, the Vandals are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 Friday games and the under is 5-1 in their last six Friday games. The under is also 4-1 in Idaho’s last five games versus a team with a winning percentage below .600.
PICK: I’m going with Utah. The Vandals haven’t been a great offensive team through four games, as they’ve posted 66 points or fewer in every outing and 58 or fewer in three of four. The Utes have score well in their three wins, notching 75 or more in each of those. This likely won’t be a high-scoring matchup, and it’s bound to be sloppy at times. That said, I think Utah has more than enough scoring prowess to bang out a cover here.
