Middle Tennessee opened up the year at 0-2 with a 60-59 loss to Omaha and a 57-43 loss to East Tennessee State. Since then the Raiders are 2-2, beating Murray State 78-61 and Covenant 76-57 and falling to Chattanooga 80-70 and Mississippi 70-51.
In the loss to the Rebels, Middle Tennessee’s Dontrell Shuler posted 19 points with two assists and one rebound. Tyler Millin was the only other Blue Raiders player in double-figures there, with 12 points and eight boards to his credit in 27 minutes on the court.
Over on the Bellarmine side, they opened up against a good Duke team, predictably losing 76-54. After that it was a nice 83-63 win over Howard in game two. The Knights couldn’t keep it going last week against Chattanooga though, falling 77-68.
In the loss to the Mocs, Bellarmine’s Pedro Bradshaw put up 22 points with six rebounds and three assists. Dylan Penn was also in double-digits, logging 19 points with six assists and two rebounds. Ethan Claycomb chipped in with nine points, five rebounds and three assists as well.
Middle Tennessee is 0-4 ATS in their last four road games versus a team with a losing home record and 0-4 ATS in their last four versus a team with a losing straight-up record. The Raiders are 2-6 ATS in their last eight Saturday games and 1-7 ATS in their last eight overall.
Middle Tennessee is also 0-6 ATS in their last six games as a favorite and the under is 8-1 in their last nine games overall. The under is 5-2 in the Raiders’ last seven road games and 10-4-1 in their last 15 Saturday games.
PICK: I’m going to take a shot on Bellarmine here. The Knights have had some tough matchups to open the season, but they’ve performed fairly admirably. Bellarmine was down by just four points at halftime to a good Chattanooga team in their last outing, and they put together a nice effort in the win over Howard. Middle Tennessee has been all over the place offensively in their first six games, and if the Raiders can’t maintain a good scoring pace here I can see Bellarmine cracking a cover.
