North Carolina A&T could only manage two victories over their first nine games, being Chicago State and Charleston Southern. Outside of that, the Aggies struggled with losses to Illinois, Ohio, the Citadel, Stanford, Longwood, VCU and Western Carolina. NC A&T got a win against Greensboro 91-45 in their latest appearance.
In the win on Friday, North Carolina A&T’s Tyler Jones led the team with 16 points, four rebounds, one assist, one steal and two blocks off the bench. Quentin Jones was the only Aggies starter in double-figures, posting 14 points with four rebounds and two assists.
Over on the Charlotte side, they came out of the gate this year with consecutive losses, falling to East Carolina 66-57 and Georgia State 76-65. Since then it’s been two wins in three games, a 78-40 victory over SC State, a 61-57 loss to App State and a 63-52 win over Davidson.
In the victory over the Wildcats, Charlotte’s Jahmir Young led the team on 18 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Jordan Shepherd managed 16 points with seven rebounds, and Milos Supica also finished in double-digits with 11 points and three boards.
Charlotte is 15-7-1 ATS in their last 23 Saturday games and 5-2 ATS in the last seven versus a team with a losing straight-up record. The 49ers are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five at home versus a team with a losing road record and the under is 7-0 in their last seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Aggies are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five as a road underdog. NC A&T is 2-5 ATS in their last seven as an underdog and the over is 7-2 in their last nine Saturday games.
PICK: I’m sticking with Charlotte here. The 49ers have notched some limp offensive efforts for the most part this season, but their defense has been keeping them within striking distance against comparable teams. Charlotte has held the opposition to 66 or fewer points in four of five games this season, but has only scored more than 65 points once themselves. That said, if the 49ers can turn the defensive screws and keep the pressure on here, I think they can maintain a nice pace for a potential cover.
