The UCF Knights and the Florida State Seminoles meet in college basketball action from the Donald L. Tucker Center on Saturday night.
The UCF Knights will finally get back onto the floor after sitting at 1-1, having not played since falling 80-58 against Michigan back on December 6th. Brandon Mahan led the Knights with 21 points on 7 of 13 shooting with a pair of threes and 5 rebounds while Isaiah Adams added 11 points with a pair of steals as the only other double-digit scorer for UCF in the losing effort. Mahan leads UCF in scoring with an average of 16.5 points per game while Dre Fuller Jr. leads the Knights in rebounding and assists with 5 rebounds and 4 assists per game. As a team, UCF is averaging 60.5 points on 35.9% shooting from the field, 30% from 3-point range and 83.3% from 3-point range while allowing opposing teams to average 67.5 points on 40.9% shooting from the field and 26.2% from 3-point range this season.
The Florida State Seminoles will try to add to their 4-0 mark to start the year after a 74-61 win over Georgia Tech last time out. Scottie Barnes led the Seminoles with 16 points on 6 of 10 shooting with 6 rebounds while M.J. Walker added 14 points with a pair of threes and Wyatt Wilkes added 11 points in 11 minutes with 3 threes off of the bench. Anthony Polite and Balsas Koprivica each had 10 points to round out the scoring in double figures for FSU in the win with Koprivica putting up a team-high 8 rebounds and 3 assists while Wilkes hit all three of his 3-point attempts in the win for FSU. Walker leads Florida State in scoring with an average of 16.8 points per game while Scottie Barnes leads the Seminoles with an average of 4.3 assists per game and Raiquan Gray has a team-high 7 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Florida Stae is averaging 78 points on 45.1% shooting from the field while allowing opposing teams to average 64.3 points on 40.1% shooting from the field and 35.3% from behind the 3-point line this season.
UCF is 15-6 ATS in their last 21 road games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 Saturday games while the under is 7-2 in their last 9 games following a loss. Florida State is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following a win while the over is 6-2-1 in their last 9 home games.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Knights handle such a long layoff and Florida State may not be the team you’d want to face after that lyoff. However, the Seminoles just haven’t been the same style of FSU team that Leonard Hamilton has put onto the floor year in and year out. There’s a lot of talent on the UCF roster and I think this is simply a case of giving up too many. I’ll take UCF and the points in this matchup.
