The Citadel Bulldogs and the Longwood Lancers meet in college basketball action from Willett Hall on Saturday afternoon.
The Citadel Bulldogs will look to build on their 5-0 mark after a 102-51 win over Carver College last time out. Jerry Higgins III had 14 points on 5 of 6 shooting with a pair of threes while Stephen Clark added 12 points on 6 of 8 shooting with a team-high 14 rebounds for the double-double to cap off the scoring in double figures for the Citadel in the win. Hayden Brown leads the Citadel in scoring and rebounding with an average of 19 points and 12 rebounds per game while Tyler Moffe leads the Bulldogs in assists with 5 assists per game this season. As a team, the Citadel is averaging 93 points on 47.6% shooting from the field, 43.1% from behind the arc and 64% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 60 points on 34% shooting from the floor and 27.3% from 3-point range this season.
The Longwood Lancers will try to rebound from a 1-5 start after a 62-53 loss to Radford last time out. Justin Hill led Longwood with 14 points on 6 of 13 shooting with a team-high 7 rebounds while Juan Munoz added 10 points with a team-high 4 assists as the only other double-digit scorer for the Lancers in the losing effort. Munoz leads the Lancers in scoring with an average of 15.5 points per game while Hill leads Longwood in rebounding and assists with 5 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game this season. As a team, Longwood is averaging 65.2 points on 45.3% shooting from the field, 36.3% from 3-point range and 63.4% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 68.5 points on 44.6% shooting from the field and 30.9% from 3-point range this season.
The Citadel is 21-7 ATS in their last 28 games following a win and 3-11-1 ATS in their last 15 games overall while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 road games. Longwood is 10-4-1 ATS in their last 15 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Saturday games while the under is 10-1 in their last 11 home games.
I think it really says something that a 1-5 team is favored albeit at home against an undefeated team like Longwood is over the Citadel. However, with that said, that’s what happens when the Citadel plays just one D-I team in their first five games and while Longwood hasn’t fared much better, the Lancers have at least played the higher-caliber competition up to this point and are better prepared for the step up in competition. I’ll lay the points with Longwood at home here.
