The UCLA Bruins and the Ohio State Buckeyes meet Saturday in college basketball action from Quicken Loans Arena.
UCLA comes into this one at 5-1 so far. The Bruins are on a five-game winning streak, most recently taking out Marquette last week. As for Ohio State, they’re 5-1 as well. The Buckeyes won their first five games before falling to Purdue on Wednesday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
UCLA opened up the season with a tough draw against San Diego State, losing that one 73-58. Since then it’s been five straight wins for the Bruins, though. Those wins have come 107-98 over Pepperdine, 78-52 over Seattle, 76-56 over California, 83-56 over San Diego and 69-60 over Marquette.
In the win over the Golden Eagles, UCLA’s top contributor was Jaime Jaquez with 18 points, six rebounds and one assist. Jules Bernard was the only other Bruins player in double-figures there with 15 points, seven rebounds and one assist. Johnny Juzang chipped in nine points with two rebounds and one assist.
Over on the Ohio State side, they opened up with a five-game win streak this season, taking out Illinois State, UMass Lowell, Morehead State, Notre Dame and Cleveland State in succession. The Buckeyes hit the wall on Wednesday against Purdue however, falling 67-60 in a shocking loss.
In the Wednesday defeat, Ohio State’s top scorer was Justice Sueing with 14 points, five rebounds and two assists. Duane Washington was the only other Buckeyes player to see double-figures in points, logging 13 points, four rebounds and two assists in 31 minutes.
The Buckeyes are 7-2 ATS in their last nine neutral-site games and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games overall. The under is 4-1 in Ohio State’s last five overall and the over is 11-5 in their last 16 Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Bruins are 5-0 ATS in their last five Saturday games and 7-0-1 ATS in their last eight versus a team with a winning straight-up record. UCLA is 7-0-1 ATS in their last eight versus a team with a winning percentage over .600 and the under is 5-1 in their last six Saturday games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with UCLA here. The Buckeyes offense has been pretty stagnant over their last two games (against teams they should be blowing out), with just 127 combined points. Ohio State shot just 37.9 percent from the field and was out-rebounded 36-30 in the Purdue game. The Bruins have hit 69 or more in five of six games this season and should be able to put up a decent offensive effort in this one. Should be a fun matchup.
