Hofstra opened up the year with a 1-2 record in some tough matchups. The Pride lost to Rutgers 70-56 and Iona 82-74 with a win over Fairleigh Dickinson in between 73-58. Since then it’s been two wins for Hofstra, 72-67 over Stony Brook and 96-88 over Monmouth.
In the win over the Hawks, Hofstra’s top scorer was Jalen Ray on 29 points with four assists and two rebounds. The only other Pride player in double-figures there was Tareq Coburn, who had a great game on 28 points, two assists and five rebounds.
Over on the St. Bonaventure side, they’re coming off a 19-12 record last season with an 11-7 mark in Atlantic 10 play. That result left the Bonnies in a tie for fifth place in the standings. St. Bonaventure ended the year on a 2-4 run before the A-10 Tournament was cancelled.
On to 2020-21, and St. Bonaventure has a win under their belts 81-74 over Akron. Topping the Bonnies in scoring there was Osun Osunniyi with 25 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Dominick Welch added 18 points with five boards and four assists, and Kyle Lofton posted 17 points with five assists and four rebounds.
St. Bonaventure is 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 home games and the over is 6-1 in their last seven Saturday games. The over is 12-3-1 in the Bonnies’ last 16 overall and 4-0 in their last four home games.
Meanwhile, the Pride are 52-24-1 ATS in their last 77 overall and 9-1 ATS in their last 10 Saturday games. Hofstra is 10-2 ATS in the last 12 after an ATS win and the under is 22-8-1 in their last 31 overall.
PICK: I’m going to go with Hofstra here. I’m probably staying away from this one, however; it’s hard knowing what to make of the Bonnies yet after just one game. In any case, the Pride have posted some nice points totals this season, with 72 or more in each of their last four outings. Hofstra has given up 82 or more points in two of their last three though, so there’s some room for St. Bonaventure to make a run. Still, I think the Pride are probably in a better position for a cover. Should be a pretty good matchup.
