The High Point Panthers and the William & Mary Tribe meet in college basketball action from Kaplan Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The High Point Panthers will look to rebound from a 1-4 start after back-to-back losses to UNC-Asheville, including a 90-84 loss last time out. John Michael Wright led the Panthers with 2 points on 7 of 15 shooting with 3 threes and team-highs of 5 assists and 4 steals while Lydell Elmore added 13 points on 6 of 8 shooting and Jaden House and Ahmil Flowers each had 11 points with Flowers adding team-highs of 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Wright leads the Panthers with an average of 22 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4 assists per game, all team-highs. As a team, High Point is averaging 76.8 points on 46.4% shooting from the field, 31.6% from behind the 3-point line and 69.2% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 80.4 points on 48.8% shooting from the field and 36.6% from 3-point range this season.
The William & Mary Tribe will look to add to their 2-1 start to the year after a 75-58 win over Hampton last time out. Luke Loewe led the Tribe with 20 points on 6 of 11 shooting with 4 threes while Quinn Blair added 14 points with 4 rebounds and Yuri Covington had 12 points with a pair of threes. Mekhel Harvey added 10 points with 11 rebounds for the double-double to cap off the scoring in double figures for the Tribe in the win. Loewe leads William & Mary in scoring with 20 points per game whiie Harvey in rebounding with 7 rebounds per game and Thornton Scott leads the Tribe in assists with 6 helpers per game this season. High Point is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 road games and 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a loss. William & Mary is 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 home games and 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 games overall while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 Saturday games.
I don’t think the issue for High Point is the offense as the Panthers have been scoring with some regularity, it’s the defense that has fallen short and while we may not be too fond of William & Mary, make no mistake, the Tribe were a solid cover team back last year, and they’re picking up right where they left off, I’ll lay the points with William & Mary in this spot.
