The Cleveland State Vikings and the Fort Wayne Mastodons meet Sunday in college basketball action from Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
Cleveland State is sitting at 1-3 overall. The Vikings lost their first three games before getting their first win on Saturday. As for Fort Wayne, they’re currently 1-1 so far after taking a loss in game two. This will be rematch of Saturday’s game between these two teams. In that matchup, Cleveland State powered out a two-point win. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Cleveland State’s first three games didn’t go very well; all losses. That said, the Vikings were competitive in a couple of them. The opener was a loss to Toledo 70-61, then Cleveland State fell big to Ohio 101-46. Last weekend the Vikings hung around with Ohio State, falling by a respectable 67-61 margin.
In Saturday’s game, the Vikings managed a tense 63-61 victory over Fort Wayne for their first W of the season. Tre Gomillion led the way for Cleveland State in that one, posting 16 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Deante Johnson added 13 points with seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
Over on the Fort Wayne side, there was quite a gap in between games this season. The Mastodons’ opener was way back on November 25, an overtime win 67-63 over Southeast Louisiana. After that, Fort Wayne saw matchups against Kent State, Adrian College and Defiance postponed or cancelled.
In the Saturday loss, Fort Wayne outscored Cleveland State 37-34 in the second half but ultimately couldn’t close the gap. The Mastodons were led by Jarred Godfrey on 21 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.
The Mastodons are 0-4 ATS in their last four Sunday games and 2-6 ATS in their last eight overall. The over is 15-5-1 in Fort Wayne’s last 21 Sunday games and the under is 22-6-1 in their last 29 overall. The Mastodons are also 1-5 ATS in their last six games versus a team with a losing straight-up record. Demetric Horton came off the bench for 3-of-6 from 3-point range and 12 points as well.
Meanwhile, the Vikings are 3-10 ATS in their last 13 Sunday games and the under is 6-2 in their last eight on the road versus a team with a winning home record.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Cleveland State here. The Vikings posted a couple of pretty solid efforts in their first three games, even if they all came up losses. Cleveland State hung right with a great Ohio State team, even outscoring the Buckeyes 37-36 in the second half. In any case, Saturday’s two-point win was solid, and I think the Vikings play another solid game to bang out a cover/win in this one.
