The Saint Louis Billikens and the Minnesota Golden Gophers meet Sunday in college basketball action from Williams Arena.
Saint Louis enters this one at 6-0 so far. The Billikens have taken out Indiana State and NC State in their last two outings. As for Minnesota, they’re 6-1 this year. The Gophers opened with six straight wins but fell to Illinois on Tuesday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Saint Louis has gotten off to a great start this season with six straight wins. The Billikens have taken out SIUE 89-52, LSU 85-81, AR-Pine Bluff 107-54, Central Arkansas 88-65, Indiana State 78-59 and NC State 80-69 in their first half-dozen outings.
In the win over the Wolfpack, Saint Louis’ Javonte Perkins led the team on 20 points, five rebounds and two assists. Yuri Collins added 17 points, five assists and four rebounds, and Jordan Goodwin managed a double-double on 16 points, 15 rebounds and five assists.
Over on the Minnesota side, they opened up the year with six straight wins as well, but fell in their last outing. The Gophers kicked things off with wins over Green Bay, LMU (twice), North Dakota, Boston College and UMKC. On Tuesday, Minnesota lost to Illinois 92-65.
In the defeat by the Illini, Minnesota’s Marcus Carr led the way on 16 points, four assists and six rebounds. The only other Gophers player in double-figures there was Liam Robbins who turned in 10 points with two rebounds. Needless to say, Minnesota couldn't get much going against a good Illinois team.
The Gophers are 1-4-1 ATS in their last six overall and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five home games. Minnesota is 13-6 ATS in their last 19 after a straight-up loss and the over is 10-3 in their last 13 overall.
Meanwhile, the Billikens are 22-7-1 ATS in their last 30 Sunday games and 10-1 ATS in their last 11 overall. St. Louis is 7-0 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win and the over is 5-1 in their last six overall.
PICK: I’m sticking with the Billikens here. Even before their loss on Tuesday, Minnesota had been playing with fire in a few games this year, escaping two of six games by five points or fewer. Saint Louis hasn’t necessarily played anyone of consequence just yet, but they’re scoring well with 78 or more in every outing. They've certainly shown some solid offensive capabilities so far this season. This should be a pretty good matchup, but I think there’s room here for the Billikens offense to bang out a cover.
