Milwaukee opened the season at 1-1, with a couple of close results. In the opener against Kansas State, the Panthers fell in a tough one 76-75. Milwaukee was able to get into the win column in game two last weekend however, taking out Western Michigan 71-63.
In the 68-65 win over Green Bay on Saturday, Milwaukee had to tough it out after a slim 28-27 halftime lead. Topping the Panthers scoring in that one was Te’Jon Lucas with 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists. CJ Wilbourn was also in double-figures there with 13 points, two rebounds and one assist.
Over on the Green Bay side, they came out of the gate with some tough matchups and skidded to an 0-4 start. The Phoenix lost to Minnesota 99-69, then fell to Wisconsin 82-42. Two more losses followed against Eastern Illinois 93-91 and Marquette 82-68.
In Saturday’s loss, Green Bay kept up with Milwaukee pretty well but couldn’t catch the Panthers in the end. Josh Jefferson led the Phoenix in scoring with 21 points, five rebounds and five assists. Amari Davis hit double-digits as well on 18 points, four rebounds and two assists of his own.
The Phoenix are 4-2 ATS in their last six home games and 4-2 ATS in their last six games as a favorite. The over is 5-1 in Green Bay’s last six Sunday games and the under is 39-17-1 in their last 56 games as a home favorite of 0.5-6.5.
As for Milwaukee, they’re 2-6 ATS in their last seven Sunday games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The over is 7-3 in the Panthers’ last 10 overall and 27-11-1 in their last 39 Sunday games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Milwaukee in this one. In their first four games, Green Bay only got close once, losing by two to Eastern Illinois. The other three outings (granted, against tougher squads) were all blowouts. Milwaukee posted a couple of nice efforts in their first pair, and displayed some pretty solid offensive capabilities. Saturday’s effort was another solid one for the Panthers, and I think they’ll do well in the rematch also.
