Southern Illinois has looked pretty solid through five games. The Salukis opened with wins over Southeast Missouri State 87-79, Quincy 102-61 and 70-66 over Murray State. In two matchups against North Dakota last week Southern Illinois took wins 85-64 and 62-50.
In the Friday victory, Southern Illinois’ leading scorer was Marcus Domask with 17 points, five assists and two rebounds. Ben Harvey added 12 points with nine rebounds, and Anthony D’Avanzo was also in double-figures with 11 points and eight rebounds in 21 minutes of work.
Over on the Butler side, they’ve had some tough matchups in their first trio. First was a 66-62 win over Western Michigan, then a blowout loss to a good Villanova team 85-66. On Saturday Butler fell again, this time 68-60 to Indiana to fall to 1-2 on the season.
In the loss to the Hoosiers, Butler’s top contributor was Jair Bolden with 20 points, four rebounds and two assists. Bryce Golden, Myles Tate and JaKobe Coles each notched 10 points there, and Bryce Nze led the rebounding with 10 alongside four points and three assists.
The Bulldogs are 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine home games and 5-12-1 ATS in their last 18 overall. Butler is 10-3 ATS in their last 13 Monday games and 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Salukis are 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight after an ATS win and 5-0 ATS in the last five overall. Southern Illinois is 0-5 ATS in their last five Monday games and the under is 6-1 in their last seven Monday games.
PICK: I’m sticking with Southern Illinois in this one. Butler has a solid group of scorers at the top of their roster, but they haven’t been able to flourish much in these tough matchups with 66 or fewer points in all three games. The Salukis have really only been challenged by Murray State (a four-point win), and I expect this one to be fairly close the whole way. I like the Southern Illinois offense to power out a cover, however. Should be a pretty fun game to watch.
