The Northwestern State Demons and the Gonzaga Bulldogs meet in college basketball action from McCarthey Athletic Center on Monday night.

The Northwestern State Demons will look to pull off the upset of the year after a 94-67 loss to Missouri State last time out, falling to 1-7 on the year. Carvell Teasett led the charge for Northwestern State with 14 points on 5 of 9 shooting with 3 threes while Trenton Massner chipped in 10 points on 5 of 11 shooting as the only other Demon to score in double figures in the losing effort. Jamaure Gregg also added 7 points to match his team-high 7 rebounds as well in the defeat for Northwestern State. Trenton Massner leads Northwestern State in scoring with 11.7 points per game while Kendal Coleman leads the Demons in rebounding with 8.4 rebounds per game and CJ Jones leads the Demons in assists with 3.1 assists per game this season. As a team, Northwestern State is averaging 69.5 points on 38.3% shooting from the field, 33.9% from behind the arc and 64.6% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 82.3 points on 45.9% shooting from the field and 34.4% from 3-point range this season.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs will look to remain atop the college basketball mountain, sitting at 4-0 after returning to the court with a bang in a 99-88 win over Iowa last time out. Jalen Suggs led the Bulldogs with 27 points on 8 of 17 shooting with 7 threes including 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Drew Timme chipped in 15 points on 6 of 10 shooting with 9 rebounds while Corey Kispert and Andrew Nembhard each had 13 points with Kispert logging 3 threes and a team-high 6 assists while Nembhard had 3 steals and 3 assists. Joel Ayayi added 11 points with a whopping 18 rebounds and 6 assists to round out the scoring in double figures for Gonzaga in the win. Timme leads the Zags in scoring with an average of 21.3 points per game while Ayayi leads the Bulldogs in rebounding with 10.3 boards per game and Jalen Suggs has a team-high 5.8 assists per game this season. As a team, Gonzaga is averaging 94.5 points on 54.3% shooting from the field, 35.8% from behind the arc and 69.5% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 81.8 points on 43.9% shooting from the field and 30.4% from 3-point range this season.

Northwestern State is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 11-2 in their last 13 road games. Gonzaga is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 17-7 ATS in their last 24 Monday games while the over is 21-5 in their last 26 home games.

I get that this is a boatload of points to give up with a Gonzaga team that’s allowed 82 or more points in three of four games this season, but Northwestern State isn’t on the level below Iowa, West Virginia, Auburn and Kansas and I think that’s fairly safe to say. Gonzaga’s also scored at least 87 in all of their games this season and if you can hang 102 on Kansas and 99 on Iowa, you sure can mutilate a Northwestern State team that’s not very good to begin with. It’s either Gonzaga laying the points or a pass for me in this matchup.
