Northern Arizona hasn’t had any luck against anyone this year over their first four games. The Lumberjacks opened with losses 96-53 to Arizona, 74-50 to UC Riverside and 91-52 to Colorado State. On Saturday it was more of the same with an 80-64 loss to Eastern Washington.
In the loss to the Eagles, Northern Arizona had just one double-digit scorer in Cameron Shelton and his 23 points with six rebounds. Luke Avdalovic added nine points with two assists and one rebound, and Carson Towt had three points with four assists and five rebounds.
Over on the Texas State side, they began the season at 3-1 with wins over Mary Hardin-Baylor, Texas A&M-CC and Incarnate Word. After that it was consecutive losses to Texas and Our Lady of the Lake, however. The Bobcats have bounced back well with wins over Texas A&M-CC and Denver in their last two games.
In the 70-68 win over the Pioneers, Texas State’s Caleb Asberry led the team on 28 points with two rebounds and two assists. Mason Harrell added 15 points with one assist and one rebound there, and Alonzo Sule had 10 points with three rebounds and one assist.
The Lumberjacks are 2-6 ATS in their last eight neutral-site games and 3-13 ATS in their last 16 overall. Northern Arizona is 0-5 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss and the under is 7-2 in their last nine overall.
Meanwhile, the Bobcats are 0-4 ATS in their last four Monday games and 0-5 ATS in their last five overall. Texas State is 16-7 ATS in their last 23 neutral-site games and the under is 7-2 in their last nine Monday games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Texas State here. Granted, Northern Arizona has faced a few pretty good teams so far this year, but they haven’t been competitive on the scoreboard. The Lumberjacks have scored 64 or below in each outing, and 53 or below in three of four. The Bobcats have had a few stumbles and dud games themselves this season, but this should be a manageable matchup for Texas State.
