The Sacred Heart Pioneers and the Wagner Seahawks meet Monday in college basketball action from Spiro Sports Center.
Sacred Heart comes in here at 1-2 so far. After losing their first two games, the Pioneers got a victory over LIU in their last outing. As for Wagner, they’re 0-3 this season. The Seahawks are coming off a pair of losses to Bryant. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Sacred Heart had a couple of rough outings to start this season. First was an 86-63 blowout loss to a great Rutgers team in the opener, then a 75-55 loss to LIU in game two. The Pioneers bounced back well however, nothing an 87-72 win in the LIU rematch on Thursday.
In the victory over the Sharks, Sacred Heart’s Tyler Thomas posted 23 points with nine rebounds and six assists. Aaron Clarke added 20 points with two assists and one rebound, and Alex Watson had 15 points with three boards and one assist.
Over on the Wagner side, it’s been three losses to start out this year. The Seahawks fell 78-45 to Seton Hall in their first game, then fell again to Bryant 74-62. The Thursday game against Bryant was another defeat, this one a little better cosmetically at 81-75.
In the Thursday loss, Wagner’s Elijah Ford posted 29 points with eight rebounds and one assist. Alex Morales managed 17 points with seven assists and eight rebounds, while Elijah Allen chipped in 11 points and two boards.
Wagner is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games and 8-27 ATS in their last 35 overall. The Seahawks are 6-20 ATS in their last 26 after a straight-up loss and the under is 6-2 in their last eight overall.
Meanwhile, the Pioneers are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games and 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight games versus a team with a losing record. The over is 5-1 in Sacred Heart’s last six road games and the under is 15-6 in their last 21 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Sacred Heart here. This should be a pretty good matchup though, and will give us a lot of information on where each team stands. (And there’s another game between these squads coming Tuesday.) The Pioneers stumbled out of the gate in their first two games but got it going on Thursday with 87 points in a nice offensive effort. Wagner seems to have found their stroke as well following 75 points in their Thursday loss. This one should be a high-scoring and competitive game, and I like Sacred Heart to eke out a cover.
