Vanderbilt opened up well in their first two games, taking out Valparaiso 77-71 and Mississippi Valley State 84-41. The Commodores took their first loss to Richmond on December 16th 78-67 in a flat outing, but were able to bounce back in the next game. That one was a 59-50 win over Radford.
In the victory over the Highlanders, Vanderbilt’s Scotty Pippen, Jr. scored 25 points with seven assists and three rebounds. The only other Commodores player in double-figures there was Dylan Disu with 12 points, six rebounds and one assist.
Over on the Davidson side, it’s been a mixed bag with some tough matchups this year. The Wildcats started out at 2-2 and have gone 2-1 in the three games since. Those matchups were a win over Georgia Southern 77-45, a loss to Charlotte 63-52 and a win over Rhode Island 67-58.
In the win over the Rams, Davidson’s Carter Collins posted 22 points with five rebounds and three assists. Lee Hyun-jung managed 16 points with four rebounds and one assist, while Bates Jones collected 12 rebounds in 25 minutes on the court.
Davidson is 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS win and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 home games. The under is 4-1 in the Wildcats’ last five overall and the over is 5-2-1 in their last eight after an ATS win.
Meanwhile, the Commodores are 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games overall and 5-1 ATS in their last six Tuesday games. The over is 5-1 in Vanderbilt’s last six road games and 5-2 in the last seven after a straight-up win.
PICK: I’m sticking with Davidson. This matchup is kind of tough, though. The Commodores scored a relatively tepid 59 points against Vanderbilt in their last game (with Pippen, Jr. notching almost half that total himself). That makes for a combined 126 points across their last pair. Davidson’s offense has been pretty unpredictable themselves, but they’ve posted some nice totals here and there. I like the Wildcats to set a good pace in this one and cover.
