The North Dakota Fighting Hawks and the Drake Bulldogs meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Knapp Center.
North Dakota enters this one at 1-7 so far. The Hawks have fallen in four straight games to SD State, ND State and Southern Illinois (twice). As for Drake, they’re rolling along at 8-0 this year. The Bulldogs have beaten McKendree, Air Force, South Dakota and Chicago State in their last quartet. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
North Dakota hasn’t had much luck in any capacity this year. The Hawks opened up with three straight losses, but then got a 75-71 win over South Dakota in game four. Since then it’s been defeats 74-62 to SD State, 53-52 to ND State and a pair 85-64 and 62-50 against Southern Illinois.
In the loss Friday to the Salukis, North Dakota’s only double-digit scorer was Filip Rebraca on 11 points, eight boards and one assist. Seybian Sims was the next-highest contributor with nine points, six rebounds and one assist for the Fighting Hawks.
Over on the Drake side, it’s been smooth sailing with an undefeated record (all double-digit wins) so far. The Bulldogs kicked off with wins over Kansas State, South Dakota, Omaha, St. Ambrose, McKendree, Air Force and South Dakota. On Sunday it was another win for Drake, 111-67 against Chicago State.
In the Sunday victory, the Bulldogs’ top contributor was Shanquan Hemphill with 21 points, six rebounds and two assists. Both DJ Wilkins and Darnell Brodie provided 14 points apiece, combining for 12 rebounds and one assist as well.
The Bulldogs are 5-2 ATS in their last seven Tuesday games and 5-0 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win. Drake is 6-0 ATS in the last six overall and 36-14-2 ATS in their last 52 home games.
Meanwhile, the Hawks are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 as a road underdog and 0-5 ATS in their last five Tuesday games. North Dakota is 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games and the over is 5-0 in their last five Tuesday games.
PICK: I’m sticking with Drake in this one. Granted, the Bulldogs have had a lot of relative cupcake matchups on their schedule so far, but there’s no denying the results. Drake has poured in 69 or more points in every game, and 75 or more in seven of eight. Defensively the Bulldogs have also done well with 67 or fewer points allowed in seven of eight. North Dakota has been pretty inconsistent in scoring this season, so I don’t think they’ll be able to bridge the gap.
