The Temple Owls and the Houston Cougars meet in AAC college basketball action from the Fertitta Center on Tuesday night.

The Temple Owls will look to build off of their season-opening 72-60 win over NJIT last time out. Damian Dunn led the way with 18 points along with 7 rebounds and a team-high 5 assists while Devondre Perry chipped in 12 points with 14 rebounds for the double-double. Jeremiah Williams added 11 points with 4 assists, a pair of steals and a pair of blocks and J.P. Moorman II chipped in 10 points with 3 threes, 3 assists and a pair of steals to cap off the scoring in double figures for Temple in the winning effort. As a team, Temple is averaging 72 points on 40% shooting from the field, 30% from 3-point range and 73.3% from the foul line while allowing opponents to average 60 points on 34.3% shooting from the field and 27.8% from 3-point range this season.

The Houston Cougars will try to remain unbeaten after improving to 5-0 on the year following an 88-55 win over Alcorn State last time out. Quentin Grimes led the Cougars with 27 points on 9 of 17 shooting with 4 threes and 10 rebounds for the double-double while Reggie Chaney added 18 points on 6 of 8 shooting with 6 rebounds. Jamal Shead had 10 points with 3 assists and a pair of steals to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Houston in the win. Dejon Jarreau added 9 points with a team-high 7 assists and Justin Gorham grabbed a team-high 16 rebounds. Grimes leads Houston in scoring and rebounding with an average of 19.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while Jarreau leads the Cougars in assists with 3.4 assists per game this season. Temple is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games against a team with a winning home record and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following a win while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. Houston is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 home games and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games following a win while the under is 16-5 in their last 21 games overall. The road team is 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings between these two teams.

I’d like to give the Owls a shot after how they looked in the opener against NJIT, but in reality, that was still a game against NJIT and having just one game under your belt against one of the best defensive teams in the country in Houston simply doesn’t feel like enough and I’m envisioning the Owls having a hard time here. Houston’s done a lot of damage defensively against teams that are a lot better, like Texas Tech, Boise State and South Carolina to name a few and I think you can add Temple to that list here. I’ll lay the points with Houston at home in this one.
