The UNC Asheville Bulldogs and the Marshall Thundering Herd meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Cam Henderson Center.
UNC Asheville enters this matchup at 3-3 this season. the Bulldogs had a three-game winning streak broken by Chattanooga in their last appearance. As for Marshall, they’re 5-1 so far. The Herd lost to Toledo last week but took a Sunday win over Robert Morris. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
UNC Asheville kicked off the season with consecutive losses to UNCW and Western Carolina. A three-game winning streak followed with victories over SC State 77-56 and High Point twice 80-67 and 90-84. Last week the Bulldogs took another loss, this time 69-66 to Chattanooga.
In the loss to the Mocs, UNC Asheville’s leading scorer was LJ Thorpe with 14 points, four rebounds and two assists. Tajion Jones managed 13 points with one rebound, and Trent Stephney chipped in with 11 points, three assists and four boards of his own.
Over on the Marshall side, it’s been a pretty solid campaign so far. The Herd opened up at 4-0 with wins over Arkansas State, Wright State, Charleston and Ohio. Marshall took their first loss to Toledo 96-87 last Wednesday, but bounced back Sunday with an 85-71 win over Robert Morris.
In the win over the Colonials, Marshall’s Jannson Williams led the way on 24 points with six boards and one assist. Taevion Kinsey added 17 points with five rebounds and two assists, and Obinna Anochili-Killen had 15 points, three boards and one assist.
Marshall is 5-1 ATS in their last six after a straight-up win and 5-1 ATS in their last six games after an ATS loss. The over is 6-2 in the Herd’s last eight home games and the under is 6-0 in their last six Tuesday games.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are 2-6 ATS in their last eight road games and 4-0 ATS in their last four overall. UNC Asheville is 5-2 ATS in their last seven Tuesday games and the over is 12-3-2 in their last 17 Tuesday games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Marshall in this one. UNC Asheville has posted a few solid offensive outings this season, but most have come against overmatched teams. The Herd have been great at putting up points themselves this year, with 70 or more in all six games so far. Marshall has a few nice scorers at the top of their roster, and I don’t think the Bulldogs will be able to hang around for long.
