The La Salle Explorers and the Maryland Terrapins meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Xfinity Center College Park.
La Salle sits at 3-4 so far this season. The Explorers are 3-1 in their last four games, most recently taking out Delaware on Saturday. As for Maryland, they’re 4-2 this year. The Terrapins have lost their last two games to Clemson and Rutgers. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
La Salle didn’t start out the season well, falling in their first three games to St. John’s, Saint Peter’s and Army. The Explorers have gone 3-1 since then however, with an 85-66 loss to UMass as the only blemish. The wins came over Lincoln PA, Drexel and Delaware.
In the 71-61 victory over the Blue Hens on Saturday, La Salle’s top scorer was David Beatty with 18 points, one rebound and one assist. Sherif Kenney added 16 points with three assists and four rebounds, while Jhamir Brickus had 12 points with two boards and two assists as well.
Over on the Terrapins’ side, they opened up the year with four straight wins. Those victories came 85-67 over Old Dominion, 82-52 over Navy, 79-61 over Mount St. Mary’s and 90-57 over Saint Peter’s. Since then it’s been two losses for Maryland 67-51 to Clemson and 74-60 to Rutgers.
In the loss to the Knights, Maryland’s top scorer was Donta Scott with 20 points, eight rebounds and two assists. The only other Terrapins player in double-figures there was Eric Ayala on 12 points, one board and one assist. Galin Smith chipped in with seven points and five rebounds also.
Maryland is 0-4 ATS in the last four Tuesday games and 2-5-2 ATS in their last nine after a straight-up loss. The over is 9-2-1 in the Terrapins’ last 12 overall and 6-1-1 in their last eight home games.
Meanwhile, the Explorers are 2-6 ATS in their last eight after a straight-up win and 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight overall. La Salle is 1-4-1 ATS in the last six road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS win.
PICK: I’m sticking with Maryland in this one. The Terrapins opened up the season with four double-digit wins, scoring 79 or more in each one. Since then it’s been two tough matchups against a good Clemson team and a great Rutgers team, so Maryland’s output has slowed. La Salle has had a few good offensive games themselves, but with the Terrapins in need of a bounce-back game here I don’t think the Explorers will be able to keep up.
