Presbyterian enters this one at 2-1 so far. After losing the opener to Jacksonville, the Blue Hose have wins over Carver and SC State in their last pair. As for the Citadel, they’re 6-0 so far. The Bulldogs have taken out CIU, Carver and Longwood in their last three outings. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Presbyterian kicked off the season with a pretty flat 78-65 loss to Jacksonville. Since then it’s been consecutive wins for the Blue Hose, however. Those victories came 85-46 over Carver and 62-56 over SC State.
In the win over the Bulldogs back on Friday, Presbyterian’s Rayshon Harrison led the team with 15 points, seven rebounds and one assist. Giancarlo Sanchez was also in double-digits there with 13 points and six boards in 19 minutes, as was Trevon Reddish with 10 points, two rebounds and one assist.
Over on the Citadel side, they’ve got four blowout wins and two relatively close escapes in their six-game win streak so far. The Bulldogs beat Piedmont, NC A&T, Toccoa Falls, CIU and Carver in their first five games, each by eight points or more. The Saturday game against Longwood was much closer though: a 91-89 Citadel win.
In the Saturday victory, the Bulldogs’ top scorer was Hayden Brown, doubling up with 26 points, 10 rebounds and one assist. Kaiden Rice added 19 points, two rebounds and one assist and Fletcher Abee notched 16 points, two boards and two assists.
The Citadel are 9-0 ATS in their last nine Tuesday games and 22-7 ATS in their last 29 after a straight-up win. The Bulldogs are 4-11-1 ATS in their last 16 overall and 1-6 ATS in their last seven home games.
Meanwhile, the Hose are 0-5 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win and 1-6 ATS in the last seven overall. Presbyterian is 0-6-1 ATS in their last seven road games and the over is 6-1 in their last seven road games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with the Citadel here, but it’s fairly close. The Bulldogs have been impressive over their first half-dozen games, but they’ve also played a lot of overmatched lower-tier teams. The Citadel fell behind North Carolina A&T 40-30 at halftime (but battled back in the second) and beat Longwood by just three points. That doesn’t bode well for a massive Bulldogs win here, but I think they’ve got enough gas to eke out a cover against the Hose in this one.
