The Vermont Catamounts and the UMass Lowell River Hawks meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Costello Athletic Center.

Vermont is sitting at 0-1 on the season after one game so far. The Catamounts are coming off a 26-7 overall record last year. As for UMass Lowell, they’re currently 2-3 this season. This will be a rematch of Monday’s game between these teams. In that one, the River Hawks notched an eight-point victory. The Catamounts have had some false starts, cancellations and postponements to start the season, but finally got back on the floor Tuesday. Vermont is attempting to recapture last year’s magic, when the team went 26-7 overall and 14-2 in the America East. The Catamounts posted a regular-season conference championship with that record.

In the opener Monday, Vermont notched a 73-65 loss. The Catamounts fell behind 29-22 at the half and couldn’t catch UMass Lowell. Vermont’s leading scorer in that one was Stef Smith with 18 points, four rebounds and one assist. Justin Mazzulla added 17 points with six boards and one assist as well.

Over on the UMass Lowell side, they posted a 76-68 victory over San Francisco to kick off the season at 1-0. The River Hawks ran into some trouble after that however, falling 82-72 to Illinois State, then 74-64 to Ohio State and 90-59 in a blowout defeat at the hands of NC State.

On Monday in the victory over Vermont, UMass’ Lowell’s lead scorer was Ron Mitchell, who doubled up on 24 points, 10 rebounds and one assist. Obadiah Noel added 17 points with two rebounds and two assists as well.

The River Hawks are 2-6 ATS in their last eight Tuesday games and the under is 6-0 in their last six Tuesday games. UMass Lowell is 6-16 ATS in their last 22 home games and the over is 8-4-1 in their last 13 home games.

Meanwhile, the Catamounts are 6-2 ATS in their last eight Tuesday games and the over is 5-1 in their last six Tuesday games. Vermont is 6-3-1 ATS in their last 10 road games and the over is 4-2 in their last six overall.

PICK: I’m going to take UMass Lowell here. The River Hawks came out of the gate with two solid offensive performances, bagging 148 combined points in their first pair of outings. The River Hawks kept pace with a great Ohio State team reasonably well, tying the Buckeyes 33-33 at halftime before losing the handle from there in a 10-point loss. Monday’s victory was a good showing for the River Hawks, and I think they’ll do well again in this one.
