Lamar opened up the season with four straight losses, falling to Houston, Tulane, Lipscomb and Air Force. the Cardinals got a 63-60 victory over LA-Monroe in game five, but since have lost consecutive games 66-63 to Southern Miss and 86-57 to LA Tech.
In the loss to the Bulldogs, Lamar’s top scorer was Davion Buster with 12 points and three rebounds. The only other Cardinals player in double-figures there was Kasen Harrison, who posted 10 points, four assists and two rebounds.
Over on the Roadrunners’ side, they’ve had quite the up-and-down season already. UTSA’s three losses came 81-64 to UTRGV, 105-66 to Oklahoma and 73-61 to Oregon State. Otherwise it’s been wins 97-71 over UTPB, 91-62 over Sul Ross State and 102-70 over Our Lady of the Lake.
In the win over the Saints, UTSA’s Jhivvan Jackson managed 27 points with six rebounds and four assists to lead the way. Jacob Germany doubled up on 17 points with 12 rebounds, and Keaton Wallace pitched in 13 points, seven assists and four boards of his own.
UTSA is 35-17-1 ATS in their last 53 home games and 0-6 ATS in their last six overall. The Roadrunners are 2-7 ATS in their last nine Tuesday games and the under is 5-1-1 in their last seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 1-4 ATS in their last five Tuesday games and 7-2 ATS in their last nine after an ATS loss. The under is 7-3 in Lamar’s last 10 road games and 7-2 in their last nine overall.
PICK: I’m going to take UTSA, but probably staying away from this game. Lamar hasn’t exactly been dazzling on offense, posting 63 or fewer points in six of their seven games so far. The Cardinals have been within three points in two of their losses, but otherwise haven’t gotten close. UTSA has been beating up on bad teams to get their .500 record, and though I don’t expect them to blow anyone’s mind here the Roadrunners should have enough scoring to manage a cover.
