The Southeastern Louisiana Lions and the Grambling State Tigers meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
Southeastern Louisiana is 1-6 so far this season. The Lions have lost their last three straight games against California Baptist, LA Tech and Texas A&M. As for Grambling State, they’re 2-4 so far. The Tigers are 1-2 over their last three outings, beating LA-Monroe while otherwise falling to Texas Tech and Tulane. Southeastern Louisiana hasn’t had much luck on the court this year. The Lions opened up the year with losses to Fort Wayne, UAB and LSU before eking out an 81-80 win over California Baptist. Three more losses followed afterward for SE Louisiana, 83-66 to California Baptist, 78-69 to LA Tech and 69-52 to Texas A&M.
In the Aggies loss, Southeastern Louisiana’s top scorer was Keon Clergeot with 14 points, two rebounds and two assists. Nick Caldwell was the only other Lions player in double-figures there with 11 points and four rebounds.
Over on the Grambling State side, they’ve bagged a couple of solid wins and a quartet of double-digit losses this year. The Tigers kicked off the year with losses to Grand Canyon and Arizona, then took out East Texas Baptist before falling to Texas Tech. Since then it’s been a 78-61 win over LA-Monroe and a 77-65 loss to Tulane.
In the loss to the Wave, Grambling State’s Prince Moss posted 18 points with five rebounds and three assists. Cam Christon had 16 points with nine rebounds and two assists, and Kelton Edwards chipped in 10 points with three rebounds in 22 minutes of action.
The Tigers are 4-0 ATS in their last four games after an ATS loss and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five home games. Grambling State is 8-17 ATS in their last 25 after an ATS loss and the over is 7-1 in their last eight Wednesday games.
Meanwhile, the Lions are 4-0 ATS in their last four Wednesday games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 versus a team with a losing straight-up record. The over is 8-3 in SE Louisiana’s last 11 after a straight-up loss and the under is 4-1 in their last five after an ATS win.
PICK: I’m sticking with Grambling State here. There’s not a ton of intrigue involved in a matchup between teams with a combined three wins, though. In any case, the Tigers have posted a couple of decent offensive outings this year, hitting 68 or more points twice. The Lions managed 81 points in their win, but outside of that they’ve been below 70 in every other game. This one should be competitive initially but I like SE Louisiana’s offense a little better on a cover.
