Nicholls came out of the gate well this year with consecutive wins, taking out UC Davis 101-93 and Idaho Sate 70-51 in their first pair. Since then it’s been three straight losses for the Colonels, however. Those have come 73-57 to Santa Clara, 60-49 to California and 73-50 to Saint Mary’s.
In the loss to the Gaels, Nicholls’ top scorer was Shawn Williams with 11 points and one rebound in 18 minutes on the court. Also in double-figures there were Jitaurious Gordon and Najee Garvin, each with 10 points and a combined four rebounds.
Over on the LSU side, they opened the year with a win 94-81 over SIUE, but then fell to a good Saint Louis team 85-81. Since then it’s been three straight wins for the Tigers. In those games, LSU won 96-43 over SE Louisiana, 86-55 over LA Tech and 88-66 over Sam Houston State.
In the win over the Bearkats, LSU’s Javonte Smart managed 25 points with six rebounds and five assists to lead the team, and Cameron Thomas posted 19 points with three rebounds and two assists. Darius Days doubled up for the Tigers as well with 16 points, 10 rebounds and two assists.
LSU is 5-2 ATS in their last seven games as a favorite and 9-4 ATS in the last 13 versus a team with a losing straight-up record. The over is 10-4-1 in the Tigers’ last 15 overall and the under is 4-1-1 in their last six home games.
Meanwhile, the Colonels are 15-7 ATS in their last 22 road games and 0-4 ATS in their last four on the road versus a team with a winning home record. the over is 5-1-1 in Nicholls’ last seven Satruday games and 4-0 in their last four road games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with LSU here. Nicholls State scored pretty well in their first two games with 171 combined points between them. Since then it’s been a dud when it comes to scoring however, as the Colonels have logged just 156 points across their last three games. LSU seems to be hitting their offensive stride in the early-going with 81 points in every outing, so this should be another high-flying appearance for the Tigers.
